During the XIX Annual meeting of the European Association of Fisheries Economists held at Malta from 6-8 July 2009 Luc van Hoof (M.Sc. Fisheries Economics Wageningen UR 1988) has been elected President. He has been elected for a two year period. Luc van Hoof has been elected member of the Board since 2005.
Founded in 1989, the European Association of Fisheries Economists (EAFE) is an independent association of economists working in fisheries, including the catching, aquaculture and on-shore sectors, in the member states of the European Economic Area. EAFE aims at promoting cooperation in research in fisheries and aquaculture, assisting the dissemination of information about fisheries economics among members and furthering understanding of the economics of fisheries and aquaculture.
Luc van Hoof is employed at IMARES, Wageningen UR. He is Executive Secretary of EFARO, the Association of European Fisheries and Aquaculture Organisations; he is Member of the Board of MARE, Centre for Maritime Research and member of STECF, the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee on Fisheries of the European Commission.
EFARO, The European Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Organization, is an association composed of the Directors of the main European Research Institutes involved in Fisheries and Aquaculture research.
MARE - Centre for Maritime Research - is an interdisciplinary social-science institute studying the use and management of marine resources. Its objective is to provide a stimulating intellectual climate for academics and policymakers in Europe as well as in the South.
STECF - Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee on Fisheries- of the European Commission is consulted at regular intervals on matters pertaining to the conservation and management of living aquatic resources, including biological, economic, environmental, social and technical considerations. The Commission takes into account the advice from the STECF when presenting proposals on fisheries management.
