Developments for Aquaculture is closely followed and discussions are driven by Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), such as Animal protection, Nature Conservation, Consumer Organizations. In order to be able to assist these organizations in their task, IMARES advises organizations on different topics, such as animal welfare, sustainability, environmental impacts, and plan development. In addition fund finding is performed together with these organizations, so that the desired research activities can be performed.
 
Aquaculture research projects are performed in close collaboration with NGOs in several cases. IMARES has the ambition to further develop the involvement of NGOs in early stages of research in order to find balanced research approaches, with broad public acceptance.
