Developments relating to climate change, rising sea levels and possible salinisation in coastal areas have been the focus of much attention recently, including from the Delta commission. But how much do we actually know about salinisation, and how is this knowledge applied in the Netherlands?
In this project, we aim to collect all the knowledge and insight about salinisation, and then to ascertain how it can be used for land use and water management. We also want to put the knowledge into practice by making it part of university and higher education programmes.
The focus is on salinisation in the coastal areas in the provinces of Groningen and Friesland. This includes a comparison with the processes in the south-west of the Netherlands.
