Environment
Economic activity on land and sea is growing apace. Space is at a premium and the sea is increasingly seen as a location for new development. A few examples come easily to mind: plans for a new airport at sea, land reclamation on the South Holland coast, the seawards expansion of the Maasvlakte (part of Europoort), oil and gas extraction and the construction of wind parks. Such developments require knowledge and understanding of their potential consequences so that they can take place within the bounds of sustainability.
