CUMULEO is a spatial modelling tool, that aims to provide insight in to the cumulated effects of human activities on the marine environment. It is implemented in a GIS environment.
Originally it was conceived with the development of offshore wind turbine farms in mind and assessed the influence on birds, sea mammals, fish, benthic fauna as well as e.g. the experiences of people visiting the beach.
One aspect that was modelled by applying GIS techniques for CUMULEO was gauging the barrier effect of offshore windturbine farms, by estimating the extra flight distance incurred by passing birds.
